I was recently contacted on Soundcloud with regards to some music I was making, a new channel wished to promote a tune of mine and I decided to give them a shot.
White Labelz proceded to explain their mission like this…
Back in the days of DJ’s playing exclusively on vinyl records the most upfront rare and new tunes were purchased traded and acquired on what was known as
“white label’s”.
mostly these where made in short runs as the producers were not yet signed or were testing out new tunes in clubs on one off records or short runs.
Due to not having the exposure or money the major labels could provide this was the cheap and easy way of testing tunes on a crowd.
often these would become popular and end up released commercially and end up well known. This is the basis on what white labelz was formed,
a modern way to give up and coming artists the exposure they deserve
with the hope that the music will reach the right ears and get the producers the recognition they deserve.
Now that spoke out to me so I thought I’d try it out.
Here is the result…
I am now hoping to get involved with this project and would encourage any budding producers who are just not getting the listens and exposure they think they deserve to apply to get a video up on the channel (I will personally recommend any decent sounding tunes to the channel… my tune was the first on there and I hope they will use more in future and appreciate anything I may recommend).
The idea is to build up a community and gain more fans all round, and hopefully introduce artists to collaborate. That’s always a good thing in my book!
There is the Youtube page (obviously) and a Soundcloud account (no actual music on there but seems that’s the main point of discovery and I suppose any page can repost stuff… links on the Electronomist video go to my Soundcloud, artist page (here!) and Facebook).
The page can also be contacted on…
